Howdy Team!

Yesterday when we discussed tree types and the two species of Goldenrain, I said we should select and order the one available at the best price. I've since been exchanging email with Tree People and it turns out the Chinese Flame Goldenrain grows a little too tall to fit under power lines.

So our tree will be the Koelreuteria panicualta species, commonly called simply "Goldenrain." This one requires less water, is drought tolerant, and is "tougher," so it's the best pick for the street anyway. Plus it's very attractive. Attached is a photo of it in bloom in summer, a photo of a young tree in fall with the seedpods, and a fact sheet.

Also since yesterday I did some research on tree spacing and found some guidance from San Diego, UC Riverside, and some others. Those that I found recommend 30-ft for our tree. Remember our inspector spaced them at 20-ft. Since the spread on our tree is about 25-ft max, I re-counted the trees based on a 25-ft spacing, and I think that will work fine. It eliminates about 9 trees but visually I don't think it will look much different from the 20-ft.

So our new count is:
South: 20 trees and 5 concrete cuts (still including Cindy's tree on Garfield)
North: 36 trees and 12 cuts.

Our budget is still over, but not nearly as bad. With Immaculate Heart's generous offer to pay for the cuts in front of the school, here's tentatively where we stand:

56 trees/supplies @ $190 each
$10,640.00
17 cuts @ $100 each
$1,700.00
Food, Drinks, etc.
? $250.00
Less Immaculate Heart Donation
$400.00
Total
$12,190.00

I'll be getting a firm quote on the concrete cuts and trees this week, so we'll know before the HUNC meeting on the 20th exactly how much we are over and how much to request.

Also, it occurred to Herson and I after the meeting that since we will all try to attend the HUNC Board meeting on the 20th to make the funding shortfall request, why not just have our next project meeting then? So, the meeting Saturday the 18th is CANCELLED and instead we'll find a place to meet at First Presbyterian following our presentation.

So please all mark your calendars for September 20th for the HUNC meeting at 6:30 pm at: First Presbyterian Church 6054 Yucca Street (East of Gower)- Upper Terrace Room. Finally, I've revised our project schedule based on our meeting, attached.

Adam.
